Conflict on the Book of Mormon
Five questions B. H. Roberts, a church historian for the Church of Jesus Christ Of Latter Day Saints, could not answer. These Questions have not been able to be answered by any one. Roberts has since left the LDS church, as he realized that the Book of Mormon is a story, not an inspired word from God.
According to the Book of Mormon, Lehi was a prophet who lived in Jerusalem during the reign of king Zedekiah (approximately 600 BC). Lehi was an Israelite of the Tribe of Manasseh, and father to Nephi, another prominent prophet in the Book of Mormon. In the first book of the Book of Mormon, First Nephi, Lehi and Nephi lead their family out of Jerusalem, and across the sea to the "promised land" (the Americas) (approximately 600 BC).
1. Linguistics: If the American Indians were all descendants of Lehi - why is there such diversity in the language of the American Indians and why was there no indication of Hebrew in any of the Indian language?
2. The Book of Mormon says that Lehi found horses when he arrived in America. The horse described in the Book of Mormon (as well as many other domestic animals) did not exist in the New World before the arrival of the Spanish Conquistadors in 1492 AD.
3. Nephi is stated to have had a “bow of steel.” Jews did not know of steel at that time. There was no iron on the North American continent until after the Spaniard Conquest 1492 AD. Also steel was not developed until 1400 years after Abraham’s life time.
4. The Book of Mormon frequently mentions awards and scimeters (scimitars) which are swords with a curved blade. Scimitars were unknown until the rise of the Moslem faith after 600 AD. It is mentioned in Nephi 4:9, however, the word Scimitars is derived from the English which was translated in 1548 AD. If this is true, how could this word have been on the golden tablets?
5. The Book of Mormon says the Nephites possessed silk. Silk did not exist in America in
pre-Columbus times. (1492 AD.)
History of the Church Vol.4 page 461, I told the brethren that the Book of Mormon was the most correct of any book on earth, and the keystone of our religion, and a man would get nearer to God by abiding by its precepts, than by any other book. (If this is true, why did the Elders change errors in the Book of Mormon in almost 4000 location. Study by Elder Tanner.)
If the Book of Mormon was translated by the gift and power of God, why has the LDS Church changed it so much? There have been over 3,000 changes in the Book of Mormon, exclusive of punctuation. For a book that is claimed to be greater than the Bible to have so many mistakes, something must be wrong.
