Where Did the Book of Mormon Really Come From?
Some say that Joseph Smith had a great imagination. Joseph’s mother wrote in the History of Joseph Smith that as a young child, Joseph gave “…most amazing recitals… he would describe the ancient inhabitants of this continent, their dress, their mode of traveling, and animals upon which they rode: their cities, their buildings, with every particular; their mode of warfare, and also their religious worship. This he would do with much ease seemingly, as if he had spent his whole life among them.” (Quoted from B. H. Roberts’ manuscript, pg 280.)
Joseph Smith may have gotten a lot of his material from a book by Ethan Smith which is called “View of the Hebrews” (published nearby in 1823) and “The Wonders of the Nature and Providence” by Josiah Priest (Published 20 miles away from Joseph in 1823-1824.) These two books have a lot to say about the Hebrew origin of American Indians and their advanced culture and civilization. It may appear that Joseph Smith may have gotten his inspiration from these two books. You should pick up these two books and learn for yourself. B. H. Roberts’ did. Knowledge is power. There are similarities you will notice in the rituals practiced in a Mormon temple and a Free-Masonry Lodge. You should read his conclusion which is in his typewritten manuscript on page 281.
The Book of Abraham
Joseph said that he translated the papyri into the Book of Abraham. After the papyri was evaluated, it revealed to be a common Egyptian burial scene with no mention of Abraham. For further studies go to www.carm.org “The Book of Abraham Papyri and Joseph Smith” and http://www.irr.org/mit/Book-of-Abraham-page.html. If you further your studies on this issue you will find that Joseph Smith had no idea what he was doing when he attempted to translate the Papyri.

Could a false church appear righteous?
Yes!
2 Cor 11:13&15, For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into the apostles of Christ. And have no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light. Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also be transformed as the ministers of righteousness; whose end shall be according to their works.
Prov 16:25, There is a way that seemeth right unto man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.
